McDonald's Feel Home
Photography project
2017
“How long has it been since you last went home?”
As children, many of us visited McDonald’s with our families — a symbol of shared joy and togetherness. As we grow older, busy work schedules often take us away from these simple moments.
This photo series serves as a gentle reminder of the warmth and happiness we once shared with our loved ones.
Each photo uses color and symbolism to express a different emotional theme:
-
Yellow – “What can you do when you miss someone?”
This image recreates the familiar act of hanging clothes on a rooftop, a common sight in Hong Kong. The Cantonese phrase “掛住” (gwaa3 zyu6) carries a double meaning — it refers both to "hanging" and "missing someone." To emphasize this, hangers are attached behind the children in the photo, visually representing this layered emotion. -
Blue – “Too busy to remember your family”
The image portrays a family underwater, imitating goldfish — creatures often associated with forgetfulness. This surreal scene symbolizes how our fast-paced lives can cause us to unintentionally forget those closest to us. -
Red – “When was the last time you felt the warmth of family?”
By exaggerating the cold environment in the image, we highlight the contrast of the model’s warm smile — representing the comforting warmth of familial love.
The campaign’s main message is captured in the line:
“Come back home tonight for dinner.”
In Hong Kong, parents often say this simple sentence to their children. Though ordinary, it carries deep emotional weight — an everyday gesture filled with care, longing, and love.
